Vacations in Iraq: An In Depth Overview

September 23rd, 2011

**Disclaimer: American cititzens are highly recommended to consult with their US Department State before traveling to Iraq for vacation or work

Do we unconsciously connote the word ‘Iraq’ with war and conflict? Although, we don’t have any intention on giving a negative perception towards the country but because we lack information about the country and because of the negative news and feedback from the media, we may unconsciously perceive Iraq as a country of war and chaos.

This false perception does hurt the citizens living in Iraq because from the moment we perceive their dwelling place as chaotic, it is also the same event that we perceive them (the Iraqis) as chaotic. This is one way of judging them as a nation when we don’t have enough evidences and information about their struggles and development.

And this is the perfect time to tweak our minds. We need to broaden our understanding and perception that Iraq is a wonderful nation with loving and caring human beings, aiming towards development. This could be the right time to open our minds that Iraq can be a splendid spot for tourism. If Iraq will be officially claimed as a tourist spot, its Iraq Dinar will increase in value, economy will improve andinternational relations will be established. And anyone knows the significance of having an established international relations right?

And the country Iraq needs to establish good relationship to other foreign countries to promote business opportunities to its citizens. This will give an opportunity for the country to explore more of the outside world. Iraq can be a great spotfor tourism. Why? Well, there are lots of reasons. For those who may have forgotten their history subject way back their early college years, the first civilization in the world was instituted in Mesopotamia.

If you want to experience the true atmosphere of an ancient city then Baghdad is the definite location for you. Or you may just decide to take a break and talk about your experiences and the things you have learned along the way with the locals while sipping your exotic tea and shisha.

So, will the country become a destination of choice? For almost half a decade of chaos, the country seems an unpleasant location for a vacation. But could its image as the origin of human civilization see tourists swarming? It may take years but it is never impossible.

Each and every country has its own exquisite spot and so does Iraq. Remember that Iraq was once the legendary Babylon. The country got spots which can become great holiday destinations. The country got amazing traditions and monuments which can be privileges for the intrepid.

Iraq has excellent traditions. The people in Iraq are accustomed to treat foreigners with kindness (which is very opposite to our current perception today). And one can never deny the grandeur of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. These bodies of water have been part of history since the human civilization began. These bodies of water are the basis of life of the region and are parts of the river system of Southeast Asia. With these rivers alone, we can definitely say that the country got the oldest cities in history which can be a great asset for tourism.

Even text books tell us that the country has hot destinations which can compete on today’s tourist spots. Tourism in Iraq can be a marvelous source of revenue. Although the establishment of tourism in the country may not be as beneficialas that of the country’s oil reserves, still it can be a great factor for the country to improve in its economic status.

Tourism in the country means that there will be a high demand of Iraqi Dinar since tourists will have to pay for their accommodations and food. This will undeniably increase the demand for Dinar and will strengthen the country’s currency for future investments. And higher demand of the Dinar also means a brighter chance for revaluation.

Tourism will greatly change the way people perceive Iraq. If there will be a successful establishment of tourism in the country, the world will have a better view onthe country and significantly to its citizens. This will extensively give a great international image and will boost the Iraqi women’s confidence and will spontaneously help them change the way they view human life. Besides, the citizens of Iraq also got heart and emotions. If we think of their country as chaotic, it seems that we are giving the world the impression that these people are not worthy to be respected.

The Iraq government is determined and focused to establish tourism in the country. The new government officials are optimistic. As a matter of fact, the country just held its “Spring Fair” at a hotel within the great walls of Baghdad. There were numerous visitors with different nationalities. All were given the chance to look at the prestigious gems and fine arts of the country. Some of the arts and crafts were meticulously created by the women of Iraq. And the religious tourists who keep on visiting the holy cities of the country are constantly growing in numbers.

Based on the latest record, Iraq receives approximately 300,000 foreign visitors every single year. The favorite destinations of these visitors are the shrines of the Imam Hussein in Karbala. This fact alone gives strength and motivations to the current Iraq government – which Iraq will soon establish its tourism for the rest of the world. The country’s target right now is to become like the famous countries Cambodia and Croatia. These famous countries were once chaotic places because of war but right now, are one of the leading countries with vacation spots.

Iraq has never been this determined. The government officials in Iraq are even planning to attend this year’s World Travel Market Exhibition. This interesting exhibition will be held in London. This will give the Iraq a chance to show to the world its great spots and sceneries to showcase their country. The government officials are determined to showcase the great antique sceneries that the tourism minister, Qahtan Al-Jibouri conducted a survey for each province in the country to adhere all the needs of the province for development.

If tourism will be established, an influx of money will be greatly anticipated. The government officials have been taking actions to attract foreign investors and international trading partners. This calls for another promising improvement of the economic status of the country.

And as we all know by fact, tourism will definitely require infrastructures like theme parks, stores, restaurants and other business establishments which can definitely promote the currency of the country. In what way can these business establishments boost the currency of Iraq? Well, it’s as simple as getting more opportunities for the citizens to earn a living. More business infrastructures mean more business opportunities and job vacancies. And construction projects will emerge opening domestic opportunities.

Promising trade arrangements will soon rise because the country will have a better relationship with its neighboring countries. And when there is peaceful relationship with countries outside the premises, it means wider job opportunities and bigger foreign investments. Oil trade transaction will definitely be a top source of revenue. Besides, the country got billions ofbarrels which are ready for business for international exports.

Everything will be very smooth and the country will be considered as one of the most powerful countries ever established. Private security will emanate and so with visa requirements. Airlines will follow such as the Star Alliance air network. If tourism will officially be launched in the country, it will never be impossible that by the next ten years an Iraqi will be included in the list of the richest human beings in the planet.

A country, although can have the greatest vacation spots in the world, if there isn’t anystable peace and order situation then it can never attract foreign tourists andinternational investors. The foundation of tourism is definitely the peace and order situation of the location.

It may even require time and money. And to help change the way people perceive Iraq, the government officials are trying their best to corroborate vacation packages and promotional tourism. Its campaign has started. Fortunately, the country is being helped by the US. The US found Iraqas a developing country. For that reason, US is helping to sustain the peaceand order situation of the place.

If the country will be able to alter the way modern people believe about Iraq, there will be abundance because tourists will just come and get attracted. This is avery challenging step that the country shall take since this will involve massive effort. But if gained and altered, it will definitely obtain extensive benefits and there will greatly be higher demand on its currency.

Thinking of visiting the beautiful country? We can all think of the positive possibilities rather than scrutinizing the country. It would be better if we alter the way we think and start to have a positive perception towards the country Iraq. The country was once the cradle of mankind and its previous grand image will definitely return.

Iraq has a brighter future once tourism will be officially established. It was once the ancient city of wealth and prosperity. Right from splendid hanging gardens of Babylon to Basra (this place was once regarded as the great Venice of the East), tourists will be able to roam around the premises of Iraq and explore the ancient city with their own naked eyes.

Dinar Goes From Lame To Fame In 5 Years

September 19th, 2011

More and more people have seen the potential of Iraqi Dinar. They even have the nerves to invest thousands of dollars to gain millions of Dinar. For the past 5 years, from 2006 up until this year, this scenario has been a fact and is expected to continue beyond the revaluation. But why is Dinar such a hot issue? Just how international is this currency that even big businessmen like Donald Trump are persuaded?

A currency as they say is the reflection of a country. If the currency has big value then the country holding that certain currency has power. And power of course is money. In other words, we need to take a look at Iraq so that we can determine the performance of the Iraqi Dinar and see its true potential in the world market. We’ve got to understand and know the progress of the country bearing the currency so that we can have conclusion on its value.

So, how is Iraq right now? Is Iraq becoming international? Well, it is normal for an ordinary foreigner to see Iraq as a country striving for development because of the devastating war it had but it is unusual for an ordinary foreigner to perceive Iraq as acountry with international market. This may seem to be unpleasant but we can’t blame other people to think this way. Although the negative rumors spreading usually have no concrete sources straight from the government of Iraq, we can still be positive that Iraq is becoming international.

For those people who doubted the international nature of business growing in Iraq then they may try to consider some emerging rumors about the list of different nationalities represented on the list of big companies which are qualified for Iraq’s 4th round of oil licenses: China, Croatia, Egypt, France, Kuwait, Japan, Italy, South Korea, United States, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Netherlands, Russia, Pakistan, Turkey, Thailand, Vietnam, and India.

We may not be totally sure but we can be optimistic about this because of the growing progress of the country. Actually, according to the rumor and some other information, there are still more. As a matter of fact, the number of countries signing up to be qualified is still on queue as they say. Well, if we try to look, these countries are not small countries. These countries are super power countries which got power and influence over other small countries. This reason alone may solidify the international nature of business in the country.

So, is Iraq international? Well, you decide. Is Iraqi Dinar a great investment? You conclude. Is the currency of Iraq good and appropriate for international market? You answer. For the past weeks, a rumor broke out that an Egyptian refinery in Mosul won an oil transportation contract in the country. Not so long ago, another rumor broke out that a certain Korean firm has built over 100,000 homes in the capital cityof Iraq. Few days after, another rumor broke out that a particular American company supplied high-tech surveillance equipment. And after a couple of months, another breaking issue spread indicating that Turkish and French businesses are planning to build big hotels. These are just simple, though uncertain supporting details, that may back up the country. The main thought we can have here is that the country is getting a global audience.

Besides, why can’t we give the country a chance? Would it be that hard for us to believe on the potential of the oil reserves of the country? Or are we judgmental enough to look down on the infinite potentials of the citizens residing in Iraq? So, will Iraqi Dinar become a great international currency? All in on this blog!

More Dinars Needed For Iraq Agriculture

September 7th, 2011

More Dinars Needed For Iraq Agriculture

The UN noticed fast growth in Iraq, other countries have predicted that the economy of Iraq will rise up to 70% from its current level today in a span of five years. This will give more steam to Iraq’s pending revaluation of the Iraq Currency.

It’s quite fascinating that Iraq has seen its need for agriculture. This calls for a promising development and improvement for the country. Besides, for a country to progress in terms of its food supply, it needs to have a source that it can establish. For this reason, Iraq is investing on grains to become a country that can be considered as self sustaining in grains in a span of three years.

Independent in grain production for Iraq is another challenging step. The country is quite aware that to become self-sufficient in grains, it needs to overcome lots of challenges and difficulties. But the country is up for the challenge. Aside from desiring to be self-sufficient in grains, the country wants to invest more on agriculture because of the jobs it can produce for its citizens.

Iraq realized that agriculture can be a labor and capital intensive industry which will be a huge source of jobs for its people. If there will be an established industry for domestic agriculture, Iraq fully understands that it means lower costs for its people in terms of food. When the country reaches the level of being self-sufficient in grains, it can be confident in providing food for its people without being dependent on other neighboring countries.

When there are enough deposits of grown grains, the local economy will benefit the most. The Iraqi government pursues on investing for an established agricultural industry not only for improving its economy but much more, for increasing its morale level. If there will be jobs created because of the established agricultural industries, the citizens will have the capacity to produce and provide for the needs of their own families.

Agriculture in Iraq is a natural way to curb the protests in the streets for lack of paying jobs. Oil production is not the only solution for a revaluation of the Dinar. It will be a multi prong approach involving independence in various facets of Iraqi industry.

Will Iraq Government Change The Dinar?

August 28th, 2011

Will Iraq Government Change The Dinar?

One of the hottest issues of the Middle Eastern market today is Iraqi Dinar. There have been a handful of economists who have predicted that the currency of Iraq will sooner or later rebase just like what happened in Turkey and Russia some years ago.

Experts have speculated this rebasing because the economy of the country is slowly rising. A lot of rumors have emerged regarding the rebasing of Iraqi Dinar. Lots of foreign investors have carefully followed the issue from time to time. And a couple of experts have drawn their own perspectives regarding the potential rebasing of Iraq’s currency.

Although there have been exhorted rebasing issues on the Internet, still there has never been a final word from the central bank of Iraq. A lot of people want this to happen but there are some who are quite skeptical.

So, what is to be expected if this will occur? It’s simple. If the rebasing of the Iraq’s currency is decided and implemented, the common 25,000 IQD will become 25 IQD. There would be changes in the banknote. The 10,000 IQD will be treated as a common 10 IQD. In simple terms, if 1 USD will make up for 1,000 IQD, the 1,000 IQD will become 1 IQD. In other words, 1 USD will be equal to 1 IQD. The 25 USD will be equal to 25 IQD.

But the lopping off of the three zeroes does not necessarily mean that the value of the currency of Iraq will immediately be equal to the US dollar. Definitely not! There is a difference between the banknotes and the value. But people may wonder if this change will affect the investors. Well, this anticipated phenomenon will never hurt the current investors of today.

As a matter of fact, this will give a lot more profit to foreign investors and to the citizens of Iraq. In what way? Why do some people want to rebase the Dinar? Actually, there are only two supported reasons at present.

First, in a certain developing country such as Iraq where cash makes up 80% of the money matter, obviously, people would rather choose for smaller banknotes than carrying a heavy bunch of papers. This will make transactions safer and lighter for investors and vendors. Second, the central bank of Iraq has coped in order to cut back Iraq’s high rates of inflation. This means that the ascent in the general level of the current prices of services and goods of the country will be easily monitored and managed.

Rebasing will be a wise solution in managing the growing currency of the country. The current government of Iraq has considered the issue but still has not drawn their final decision. But if this will happen, the new banknotes are predicted to be printed by the Britain’s De La Rue. Britain’s De La Rue is a renowned commercial printer for banknotes and is currently recognized as the world’s biggest printer of banknotes.

So, will Iraq rebase the Dinar? Well, for now we can only assume or anticipate but we can’t strongly assert because we don’t have enough concrete statements from the government of Iraq. What we can do for now is be positive and expect the best for the growing country. This ‘again’ is another indication that Iraq is developing. This is a strong indication that the country will face the big foreign market. If this growth will continue, Iraq will become a powerful nation again with citizens who are more confident and civilized. A lot of foreign investors will definitely get attracted and the ISX will definitely grow.

Why The Iraqi Dinar Is Still A Great Investment

August 11th, 2011

Give the Iraqi’s What they want and you may very well get what you want.  This is something that I’ve really been thinking about, what do the Iraqi’s really want?  I think they want a peaceful country, with a strong currency so they too can benefit too.

In the Saddam Era 1 Dinar was worth 3 US dollars at a time when Iraq and USA Government were ‘friends’ well before the first Gulf War.  Imagine that, a single Dinar banknote, no zeros, just 1 dinar, was worth 3 US dollars.

If you made 3X your initial investment within 10 or 15 years of the date when you first invested would you be happy?  3X is not a home run that some investors are expecting but it is a significant base for your return on investment.  Talk to a financial advisor at your local bank, don’t listen to my babbling of old Babylon grounds.

To keep the numbers simple for calculations lets say that  currently, 25000 dinars is equal to $25.  Well, with a revaluation that permitted you to make 3X your initial investment hypothetically speaking 25000 dinars would be worth $75 (or 3 X $25)

I want to run one more thing by you…  What if the Government of Iraq have set their sites on a conservative revaluation amount, not 1000X your investment, not 100X, but just 3X your principle investment.

Is it possible that the current dinar banknotes is a constant reminder to Iraqi’s of all the inflation that took place spanning across 2 Gulf Wars, I’m talking about all the zeros.  Do Iraqi’s have pride in their dinar like they once had?  Where 1 dinar was worth $3 USD?  Maybe.

Truth is that it is really difficult to predict exactly how events will unfold with our dinar.  Regardless I have faith in my dinar that no matter what happens the most important thing is the first give Iraq what they want and I will benefit thereafter.

What’s On Our Agenda

August 5th, 2011

Hello friend!  Darren here, want to give you an update on what’s going on from my side.  I’ve been keeping my eye’s and ears open for late breaking news with our investment.  I’m planning on starting up our monthly mastermind calls again (really miss them) and there will be some changes with call access (more on that later)

I’ve been busy with my marketing team preparing a bunch of fresh home grown original articles, first if which was not quite ready for today.  There is always good news coming out of Iraq and we are going to stay positive and make the best decisions with the circumstances we’ve been dealt.  Stay optimistic!  The yahoo’s of the Dinar world are going to become yesterdays wine in the near future, trust me…..  I’m talking about the cheerleaders who are way out in left field just for a profit.

This is a little off topic but I’ve been taking great joy in making massive payments (as big as I can) against my credit card debt, and it feels really good.  Why am I talking about this?  Well, I can’t bring our United States out of trillions of debt in the blink of an eye myself ; )  But I can do my part by paying off my own debt.   And it feels really good to do just that.   No more minimum payments!  Looking forward to investing more too.

So whats on your plate?  Anyone excited about getting on the phone with like minded investors to talk about what needs to be talked about?  Iraqi Dinar, yes, that’s what I’m talking about.  Stay tuned….. and please comment, I will write you back!

Your friend,
Darren Chabluk

Central Bank Iraq Collecting Bank Notes

July 22nd, 2011

Central Bank Iraq Collecting Bank Notes

It has come to my attention that speculation still continues in regards to Chapter VII and whether or not it is lifted. There are some select few individuals who continue to argue that it has been lifted. I’m still not quite sure why some are still arguing that issue when I have provided link after link of credible sources that confirm Chapter VII is still ongoing.

If there are some who are not yet convinced maybe you may need more reassurance. Read on.

The Prime Minister of Iraq, Nuri Al-Maliki, was recently invited to China. The Chinese government welcomed the delegation from Iraq which was led by Prime Minister Nuri Al-Maliki and other high level ministry officials. The MENAFN news web site just published an article referencing how PM Maliki asked the President of China, Hu Jintao, for his support to get out of the UN Chapter VII. China has a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council and has a single vote to remove the remaining sanctions against Iraq. China has a major role in this which may be the reason PM Maliki has asked for the support in being removed from Chapter VII.

China has influence and the money to help facilitate this for Iraq. In the near future, you will see PM Maliki visiting other members of the United Nations Security Council (France, Russia).

Iraq-China’s Support needed to get rid of Sanctions – Maliki
http://www.menafn.com/qn_news_story_s.asp?StoryId=1093430034&src=RSS

On 9 July posted in the Aswat al-Iraq news was a recent quote from the Kuwait Deputy Prime Minister and foreign Minister Mohammed al-Subah. It read “Iraq must complete its implementation of all UN Security Council resolutions, being the only means for it to get out of UN Charter’s Article 7,” Subah told Kuwait al-Qabas newspaper.

Kuwait calls on Iraq to implement UN Security Council’s resolutions, in order to get out of UN’s 7th Article

As much as some people would like to think that Kuwait is the number one investor in Iraq, they simply are not. The foreign investment in the country of Iraq has doubled in 2010 however, Kuwait is not the top investor. Kuwait has never been rated in the top 12 nor have they ever been in the top tier of private investing in Iraq. The number one country that is currently investing in Iraq is Turkey with 14 billion dollars. You can view the list of foreign countries who have invested in Iraq by clicking on the urls below.

Foreign Investment Almost Doubled in Iraq in 2010
http://musingsoniraq.blogspot.com/2011/04/foreign-investment-almost-doubles-in_29.html

The appointment of Ministry officials:
The current acting Ministry of Defense Maliki Jassim al-Obeidi is not the permanently appointed MoD official. Al-Obeidi is only temporary in this position until a new candidate is selected.

The Extension of UNAMI:
The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) will vote on the extension for the continuing mission in Iraq on 28 July. The UNAMI mission will be extended in Iraq. The mission will continue for years to come. They are currently moving their compound from one location to another. Iraq needs the UNAMI mission to continue its work to benefit the Iraqi people. They are not going away.

The Iraqi Currency Update:
The information I am getting is that the Central Bank of Iraq is currently removing the 25k notes from circulation. This is the only banknote that I am told is being removed. This is a slow and methodical process and will take 2 -3 years to accomplish this task. As stated in the last post, the actual new design of the new Iraqi currency has been completed. There are 6 new de-nominations as of now in the draft to be implemented in the future. Of course it’s always possible that all this could change as the Central bank planning committee is still in session.

In regards to the much speculated RV, nothing will occur in the month of July nor in the month of August, the start of Ramadan. Ramadan is approaching in a few weeks starting on either 1 or 2 of August depending on if your Shia or Sunni religious sect.

Thank you for reading.

3 Reasons Why Dinar Would Make For A Very Expensive Wallpaper

July 12th, 2011

3 Reasons Why Dinar Would Make For A Very Expensive Wallpaper

For quite some time, there have been millions of individuals who have dipped in to the anticipated revaluation of Iraqi Dinar with a purchase of the currency.

For more than seven years there have been numerous names, like Donald Trump (The person who owns the Trump International Hotel, Trump Marina Hotel and Casino and Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort), who have engaged in its circulation by purchasing as much as they can for future revaluation.

Dinar gets a great value perceived value to every individual in all the corners of the globe when world leaders, celebrities, and famous investment advisors like Jim Cramer endorse the currency on TV. This solidifies the possibility that Iraq money can be an expensive wallpaper in the next years. Have you yet to see someone put their money where their mouth is and plaster their dinar on a wall in pictures? No.

Here are 3 major reasons why we can concretely conclude that Iraq’s currency would make an expensive wallpaper:

1. When we talk about the state of revaluation of the said currency, we can wrap up that its value is constantly inclining. Its value is slowly and constantly on the rise compared to any other currencies in the world market. Be conservative, were talking about comparing Dinar to other world currencies here.

On the mid of April 2003, 1 USD is equivalent to 4000 IQD but when we check on its current value for the year 2011, we will be presented by the fact that 1 USD is now equivalent to 1175.5 IQD. This has been a great fact that we can look forward. Amidst the negative rumors about the downfall of the currency’s value, we still can be positive in expecting for greater value.

2. For a currency to move forward among the competition of the world market, it should have a great foundation. What do we mean by this? In order for a country to produce higher value on its currency, it should have a promising economy. Economic growth is the primary prerequisite for the currency to go farther. So, how can this economic growth be attained? There should be peace. Fortunately, Iraq has been a peaceful country for quite some time now after its horrible war with the US troops because of the cruelty of its former leader Saddam Hussein.

The US troops in Iraq are slowly being removed from the premises of the country because the country showed extensive progress. The former leaders are replaced by new deserving leaders. Its government is changed by having three new states. With this formal legislative government being continually observed, the country will have peaceful atmosphere.

3. The stock market of Iraq or popularly known as the ISX (Iraq Stock Exchange) has quite done well in the past five years. Way back 2004, it only had 15 collaborative companies but now it already has over 100 stable companies. These companies have been performing excellently in the stock market of Iraq for more than five years. This gives us an explicit idea that we can confidently invest in Iraq.

The Central Bank of Iraq has even ensured domestic price stability with accordance to the proper financial system agreed by the UN. This guarantees to a more promising profit if we invest in the country’s currency. As long as we read carefully the terms and conditions and possess the proper information then we can get the most out of every dinar investment.

There are lots of reasons that can concretely support the idea that Iraq currency would become an expensive wallpaper. Discussing all of those reasons might take us for more than 24 hours. The country is in constant progress and for the next years it will continually improve. And as for us, we just need to be aware of the possible opportunities that it can offer.

Place your bet! Given another 5 to 10 years, the currency of Iraq will be included in the list of the most expensive wallpaper in the world.

American Contractor Clearing things up!!

July 4th, 2011

American Contractor Clearing things up!!

It appears that my last post may have caused some confusion amongst a few readers and I would just like to begin by clarifying something. Dr. Sinan Shabibi is NOT under house arrest. That is not the case and it appears that I was once again, misquoted. Dr. Shabibi can not leave the country for the time being. That is all. This is not the same as house arrest. How long this order will be kept active is anyone’s guess. I have no other information on this only that I have witnessed him being served with the order. The Arabic Translation from the written order in English stated “Forced Residency”. This order was given after the meeting with the Council of Minster on June 19th. This was when Dr. Shabibi was advised not to leave the country. It is important to note that Dr. Shabibi is one of two people in the CBI that will be asked to present the Re-Denomination report to the Council of Ministries when asked in the future.

When I recently wrote that Dr. Shabibi did not attend the 2011 International Arab Banking conference in Rome, Italy I stated that because it is FACT. He was NOT there. The only thing I can tell you is to look at and review all the news articles that came out in regards to that meeting and I challenge anyone of you to find even one article quoting Dr. Shabibi from the Arab Banking Summit. Anyone saying he was there is mistaken. The confusion might stem from all the news articles prior to the Arab Banking Summit listing him as a guest speaker. However, you will discover that there is not one article quoting him at the Summit event. It is customary for him to speak at these meetings when he is an attendee. Dr. Shabibi was quoted in prior Summit meetings in 2008 and 2009.

Chapter Seven

Contrary to what a few keep saying, Iraq and Chapter Seven will most likely continue till the next review by the United Nations, in December 2011. In another twist, Kuwait’s newly planned port, will more than likely obstruct the commerce of Iraq’s only main deep water port. The Kuwait government has assured the United Nations that the new port would not violate the sovereignty of Iraq. This will continue to be an issue in the months to come as Iraq is challenged again to be released from Chapter Seven. The Iraqi port has yet to be expanded and rebuilt due to lack of funding.

There is a lot of disinformation in regards to the Erbil agreement. The word out there is that PM Maliki has to give up power and this is just not true. PM Maliki does not have to give up his power he just has to conduct Power Sharing with the al-Iraqiyah list leader Iyad Allawi. PM Maliki is against the sharing of power at this present time.

The Development Fund for Iraq
Some people appear to be confused in regards to what is happening with the DFI fund. The account which the funds are located are in the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and will remain for years to come. The fund will most likely have a name change although the name has not been revealed as of yet. 5% of the proceeds coming from the oil sales each month goes to a special account the United Nations has set up to pay for the reparations for Kuwait. Iraq still owes 25 billion dollars to Kuwait.

Contrary to what some are claiming, Dr. Sinan Shabibi has never said that he will RV the currency to meet the Iraq budget.

Another false statement made, the Iraq inflation rate is currently 7% and is rising due to increase in import prices not because they don’t have a tradable currency.

Regardless of all the disorganization and pace of a snail, Iraq continues to make progress and strides in the banking sector as well as the overall economy. I am hopeful that we will be able to speak more positively in the coming months about all the advancements and progress being made.
